🌀 Whirlpool washer displays FIE error (drain error)

🔧 Troubleshooting Steps

1. Clean the drain pump filter (bottom front of washer). Remove the small round cap, drain water, remove debris
   ✓ Expected: Filter clean, water flows
2. Check the drain hose — it should be no higher than 96 inches and routed without kinks
   ✓ Expected: Hose properly routed
3. If FIE persists, check the drain pump impeller. Remove the pump and verify the impeller spins freely. Whirlpool drain pumps have a known issue where the impeller breaks off
   ✓ Expected: Impeller intact and free-spinning
4. If the impeller is intact, check the pressure switch. A stuck pressure switch causes false 'water present' readings
   ✓ Expected: Pressure switch diaphragm free
5. If all the above check out, the drain pump motor itself may be failing. Whirlpool drain pumps fail after 5-8 years. Replace the pump assembly
   ✓ Expected: New pump, FIE cleared
